Apple to Cut Off iCloud Backups for Old Devices—Is Yours Affected?

Got an older iPhone, iPad, or iPod? Heads up: Apple’s about to stop iCloud backups for some aging devices. Starting December 18, your device needs to be running at least iOS 9 to keep using iCloud storage. If you’re stuck on iOS 8 or earlier, no more new backups for you—and existing ones on iCloud will be off-limits too.

The good news? Devices like the iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and iPod touch 5th Gen can still upgrade to iOS 9. Just head to “Software Updates” in your settings and get it done. If your device is even older, you’ll have to back up manually using iTunes or Finder on your computer with a USB cable.

Apple says this move helps keep things aligned with modern system updates. Makes sense, but it’s a nudge for anyone hanging on to those retro devices.

In other Apple news, rumors are swirling about the company discontinuing its Vision Pro AR headset from 2024. Complaints about its bulky design and discomfort might’ve killed its vibe. Plus, an older Apple Watch model and the classic headphone jack adapter seem to be getting the boot too.

So, is it time to upgrade your tech? Let us know what you think!
